KATATONIA w/ Anders Nyström (a.k.a. Blackheim) (guitars, programming)

# What was your first album purchase?

The first album I got was Kiss ~ Love Gun but that was a gift, so my very first purchase out of my own pocket money was Motley Crue ~ Shout at the Devil back in 1983.

# What was your latest album purchase?

Last purchase: Tori Amos ~ The Beekeeper.

Last gift: Darkthrone ~ Preparing for War box set.

# Which single album has changed your perception of music?

There’s more than one. The corner-stone album that built me a life dedicated to (heavy) metal was probably Judas Priest ~ Defenders of the Faith. Then it’s probably Metallica ~ Master of Puppets that made me keep the path into the more extreme metal that was to follow and once there Bathory took the throne. Finally, Paradise Lost ~ Gothic was the most influential album for me as an artist on my own.

# Which album would you pick up for your best friend?

Jeff Buckley ~ Grace.

# And which album would you pick up your worst enemy?

It would have to be something fukking crappy… Children Of Bodom or something…

# Which album would you use to seduce a person of the other sex?

Who wouldn’t fall for the disgustingly slimy recipes of Fabio ~ After Dark. No hesitation, 100% absolution.

# Your preferred album to fall asleep to?

Don’t have a specific album for this task, but musically it has to be something atmospheric.

# Your preferred album to wake up to/banish hangovers with?

Just the local radio station does it for me with their random selections of rock. I don’t even have the strength to think about what music to crank after a wet Saturday night out.

# Your preferred album to sing along to in the shower?

Whitesnake ~ Starkers in Tokyo! Coverdale and Vandenberg barren and stripped down to an acoustic guitar and a microphone…

# Please recommend an album from the 80s!

Let’s see… Why not have a go at Wrathchild ~ Stakk Attakk for being a charmingly raw early hilarious record way before the glam boom.

# Please recommend an album from the 90s!

First thing that came to my mind would be Emperor ~ In the Nightside Eclipse for its profound majestic power. Exclusively Nordic album.

# Please recommend an album from after the turn of the millennium!

An album that really impressed me heavily and is just about to be released is Daylight Dies ~ Dismantling Devotion.

# What is the most embarrassing album in your collection?

Definitely Benighted Leams ~ Caliginous Romantic Myth: a cult masterpiece of purest embarrassment.

# And what is the most valuable item in your record collection?

One of Katatonia’s test-press vinyls?!

# Most represented band by raw numbers in your collection?

A good guess would be Judas Priest.

# Most disappointing album you ever bought?

Hmm… Quorthon’s solo project albums?!

# Name the one album you would have loved the most to have contributed on?

In the fucking still of the fucking night… Whitesnake ~ 1987!

# Name the album that you and your record collection lacks the most?

Bathory’s debut album with the yellow goat on the cover.

# Name the song you would like to have played at your funeral?

The Cure ~ “Prayers for Rain”.

# Name three albums you would bring along to a deserted island?

Tough! But I got a solution with the format, haha…

Whitesnake ~ Best Of

Morbid Angel ~ Best Of

Red House Painters ~ Best Of
